![]() Close the editor to remove the additional latency. Max for Live devices introduce additional latency when their editor window is open. Close the editor window in Max for Live devices Freeze and flatten any tracks with active track delays. If you adjust a track delay, then every other track in the set is compensated so that everything plays in time. Delay compensation must be active in the Options menu before you freeze and flatten the track. Tracks containing devices which introduce latency should be frozen and flattened to permanently remove the latency. Freeze and flatten plugins and devices which introduce latency We highly recommended using a cabled (USB/Firewire/Thunderbolt) interface instead, or use cabled headphones. Streaming audio wirelessly using Bluetooth or WIFI adds much higher latency. 6. Don't use Bluetooth devices or cast audio Use a dedicated audio interface running native driversĭedicated audio interfaces usually have native drivers and offer better sound quality than built in soundcards. If no native ASIO driver is available for your device use ASIO4ALL instead. Install and use the ASIO driver for your interface. It's difficult to achieve low buffer sizes when using the default MME/Direct X driver on Windows. Note: It's only possible to select one device as input and output when using the ASIO Driver on Windows. This will reduce the overall latency value. If you're not recording from an external source, then set the Audio Input Device to "No device". Higher samples rates however also put additional stress on the CPU. The higher the sample rate, the lower the latency. Sample rate refers to the amount of samples which are carried per second. Here's how to reduce the CPU load in Live. Therefore you may notice audio dropouts at lower buffer sizes, depending on the overall CPU load of the set. There's a trade-off though, in that lower buffer sizes require more CPU power. The smaller the buffer size, the lower the latency. The settings you change below will affect the Overall Latency field. You can hover over the title bar of a device to see how much latency it has. However this adds latency, especially if there is a device or process in the set with a very high latency amount. ![]() Delay Compensation is used to ensure that all tracks in a set playback in sync with each-other. Device/Plug-in related latencyĬertain Live and Max for live devices, as well as certain plug-ins and processes can add latency. In addition, the type of audio driver and the interface you use affect latency. The bigger the buffer size, the bigger the latency. The buffer size is defined in Live's Audio Preferences. This helps to minimize dropouts or glitches, as the buffer allows time for all events to be smoothed out. Audio interface latencyĪll audio in Live is processed in defined parcels of time, called an audio buffer. The following image contains my recommended vocoder settings feel free to modify these settings as necessary to fit the project you're working on.There are two main sources of latency: 1. Envelope Depth controls how much of the modulator's envelope is applied to the carrier's signal, and Dry/Wet controls the balance between processed and dry signal. This device consists of five parallel resonators that superimpose a tonal character on the input source. More bands will result in a more accurate analysis and a more intelligible output signal. ![]() Some key parameters that you should consider adjusting include the number of bands, Envelope Depth, and the Dry/Wet knob. ![]() If you tap the signal post mixer, there will be no sidechain input signal because you previously muted the synth track. For Ableton Live Lite and Intro, follow the steps in the first method, as Lite and Intro do not allow you to use the second method. Set The Carrier Type to "External" and Select a Sidechain Input SourceĬhange the vocoder's Carrier Type to "External" and set the sidechain input source to your synth track post FX. There are two methods to configure external instruments in Ableton Live. By default, the vocoder won't provide the effect you're looking for, so some additional setup is required. Place your vocoder on the track containing the vocals. Add a Vocoder to The Track With The Modulator Signal (Vocals) Once you've created this track, deactivate it by toggling off the Track Activator in Ableton's Mixer Section this will mute the output. You can create a MIDI track in Ableton by pressing ++. Download version: EUR 549/USD 699 (includes Ableton Live 8, sound library, 8 Ableton instruments) Ableton Live 8.
